The Molly Brown Summer House Museum & Event Center is rich in Colorado History. Built in 1897 by Mr. & Mrs. J.J. Brown, this famous and enduring couple and their children enjoyed long, lazy summer days on their 450 acre country estate which they named Avoca Lodge. Your school group will learn all about the history of Molly and J.J. Brown and rural living in the late 1800s. They will also learn about the architecture of the house and restoration projects. In addition they will learn about farming and the history of the local area, as well as the history of the later inhabitants including the present owners whose family purchased the home in 1928.

The Molly Brown Summer House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The tour is guided by Mary Rose Shearer, the granddaughter of the Fehlmann family who purchased the estate in 1928 and includes their history as well. We will visit each room on the main floor and Mary Rose will provide information on the architecture and restoration which has taken place over almost 80 years. Ms. Shearer has given presentations to various schools, clubs and senior centers and is available as a keynote speaker.

Kids may bring a bag lunch which they may enjoy on the patio or in the house. We can provide lunches upon request. We provide plenty of on-site, safe parking for cars and buses. The grounds are surrounded by an eight foot stone wall with plenty of safe room for kids to run and play.
