Built
in 1897 by Mr. & Mrs. J.J. Brown, this famous and enduring couple and their
children enjoyed long, lazy summer days on their 450 acre country estate which
they named Avoca Lodge. One
thousand orchard trees graced this rich and fertile property. You will be
pleasantly surprised when you discover "everything you didn't know" about
Margaret, J.J. & their beloved Avoca Lodge. Enjoy a relaxed tour packed with
historic photos and new information. Not a typical tour, a beautiful luncheon is
provided with every program. With lunch, you will be our guests for about 2
hours.
The tour is guided by Mary Rose Shearer, the
granddaughter of the Fehlmann family who purchased the estate in 1928 and
includes their history as well. We will visit each room on the main floor and
Mary Rose will provide information on the architecture and restoration which has
taken place over almost 80 years. Seating is provided in every room. Ms. Shearer has given presentations to various
schools, clubs and senior centers and is available as a keynote speaker.
