The Historic Molly Brown
Summer House |
|
Margaret Tobin Brown was born the daughter of poor
Irish immigrants in 1867. Flamboyant and generous, she became a legend in her
own time and was immortalized as the "Unsinkable Molly Brown". The Molly Brown
Summer House was this indomitable woman's celebrated retreat. Visitors hear
charming, nostalgic and delightful accounts not only of Molly and J.J., but also
of the Fehlmann family who later purchased the property in 1928.

Molly and J.J. purchased land parcels that would
eventually grow into a 400-acre country estate, featuring a fishing pond,
terraced lawns and stunning flower beds. Molly named the property Avoca Lodge,
from the Thomas Moore poem
The Meeting of the Waters. In 1897, the couple
built this two-story buttered brick home as their country home.
In 1928 the Fehlmann family purchased the house
and the remaining 100 acres and five generations of the family have lovingly continued
to maintain it.
Now open to the public as an Event Center and
gathering place for family and friends, this historic home provides personalized tours, an elegant tea room and
choice menus for brunch, lunch and dinner. The Molly Brown Summer House offers visitors a diverse and
fascinating look into Colorado history, culture and growth through a century of
change. |
